BEAVERKILL VALLEY CHURCH

posted June 16, 2012

One of the first projects of FOBC was to preserve the original clapboard on the Beaverkill Methodist Church, which was slated to be covered with vinyl siding.  We raised enough money to scrape and paint the church in the early 90s with the understanding that this procedure would have to be regularly repeated, which FOBC has done.  This maintenance has been an on-going community commitment.

As of this July, the church is no longer affiliated with the Methodist Conference and the sign outside the church reads, “Beaverkill Community Church” to announce that the church will serve the community in an expanded way. It is non-denominational. Mary Hall serves as our lay speaker and we invite speakers from various perspectives to participate in the summer services.  The church is also open to a variety of community events. We have a small choir, led by Stuart Root and we are accompanied by Sean Carmichael, an accomplished musician. We are always looking for more singers.

The schedule for the summer services is posted on the FOBC below. We hope you will support and participate in this new community church.

Ellen Loizeaux

The Friends of Beaverkill are sad to inform you that longtime community and church member Ellen Loizeaux died on Monday night, May 21,  after a short illness.  Donations can be made to the Beaverkill Church  in her memory.   In addition, flowers are welcome and can be (but not limited to) potted perennials that we can use to create a memorial garden in her honor someplace in the Beaverkill Valley.  In addition to a profound weakness for chocolate, ice cream and superb tenors - Ellen also was terribly fond of yellow roses.

Audrey Foote

Audrey Foote, Tim's wife of 63 years, educator, translator and ardent feminist, passed away on April 3 at 85.  Read about her here in the Washington Post.

In lieu of flowers, you can contribute to the Audrey C. Foote Memorial Gift Fund at the Animal Legal Defense Fund. You can donate online at www.aldf.org

Foodstock 2012, May 5

Farmers, producers and growers of all kinds will be represented at “FOODSTOCK”, as well as local restaurants, wineries and distributors. Each will offer a representative sample of their product for attendees to taste. All products will be available for purchase. Restaurants will offer a taste of their signature dish.

There will be fresh produce of all kinds, amazing baked goods, homemade jams and preserves, meats and smoked meats and fish, maple products, tantalizing desserts, sausages, sauces and pestos, fudge and cheeses, and an array of locally-produced wines.
