The First Collection of Stories
published circa 1950

Volume I Stories of the Beaverkill was published by FOBC in 2003.   But Volume I was not, in fact, the first collection of Beaverkill stories.  A small (12-page) booklet predated Volume I by about half a century.

This slim booklet was sponsored by the Beaverkill Valley Neighborhood and Historical Association , a group which -- like FOBC -- wanted to preserve our heritage and foster a sense of community.

The 1950s collection included only two stories, it is true, but the editors had ambitious plans to publish 8 more.  All 10 are listed in the Foreword   whose link appears below.

The Beaverkill Valley Neighborhood and Historical Association
The Editors, most of whose names we remember today.

Foreword
The projected table of contents for future editions of the booklet.

A Short History of the Valley of the Beaverkill
by Ken Osborne and Charles Campbell.  This piece appeared in Volume I.

Trout Fishing on the Beaverkill
by Fred Banks.    To our knowledge this  piece has never been published except in the 1950s booklet.

The History of Lew Beach
contributed by Fran Sharpless in August 2008, written by Mrs. Cy Gordon, Bill Sharpless's mother, for the First Collection.   Mrs. Gordon must have missed the deadline for inclusion in the first edition, and to our knowledge her piece was never published anywhere else ... until now ... on the Web.

Note:  in the original booklet, Mrs. Gordon was referred to as Mrs. Si Gordon, not Mrs. Cy Gordon.  In actual fact, her husband was also not named Cy.    His real name was Norman Seaver Gordon.   But, because he played sports for Dartmouth, he was nicknamed Cy, after some famous baseball player.
